Privacy Policy

We collect the following types of information when you use Lions Chess:

Account information: Your email address, password (stored in hashed form), and the username you choose during onboarding.

Profile information: Optional profile details you provide, such as a profile picture, bio, and display preferences.

Game & activity data: Your game history (moves, results, PGN records), chess and puzzle ratings, club memberships, tournament registrations, and friend connections.

User content: Chat messages you send in games, club announcements you post, and other content you create.

Technical data: Device and browser information, approximate location (for matchmaking and leaderboard purposes), and usage analytics about how you interact with the Service.

We use your information to:

• Provide chess games, matchmaking, tournaments, puzzles, and social features;
• Calculate and maintain your ratings and game history;
• Display your profile, ratings, and activity to other users as appropriate;
• Process Premium subscription payments and manage your subscription;
• Detect and prevent cheating, rating manipulation, and abuse;
• Analyze and improve the Service, including fixing bugs and developing features;
• Communicate with you about your account, security, and service updates.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Lions Chess uses browser local storage to remember your preferences — such as board theme, piece style, sound settings, and cached game state — so your experience persists between sessions without requiring a server round-trip.

We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication (keeping you logged in) and basic analytics. You can clear local storage and cookies through your browser settings, though doing so may reset your in-app preferences and log you out.

We use trusted third-party services to operate the Service:

• Stripe — processes Premium subscription payments. Stripe receives your payment details directly; we do not store your full card number. Stripe's handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policy.
• Google — provides Google Sign-In for authentication. Google shares your basic profile information (name, email) with us for account creation, governed by Google's privacy policy.
• Analytics providers — may collect aggregated, anonymized usage data to help us understand and improve the Service.

These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. We encourage you to review their policies.

We retain your account and game data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data and profile within a reasonable period, though some aggregated or anonymized data (such as leaderboard statistics) may be retained.

Game records (PGN, results) may be retained to preserve tournament integrity and historical accuracy even after account deletion, but they will be disassociated from your identity where practical.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you;
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
• Delete your account and associated personal data;
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.

You can update your profile information directly in the app. To request data access, correction, or account deletion, contact us through the Support option in the app menu. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

Lions Chess is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete that information.

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including encrypted authentication tokens and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
